Dear Jerzy,
I am back from sailing now and am able to reply to your generous signal of the 13th June. So sorry for the delay but communications in my boat are not perfect!
We are so glad that you understand the Jester formula which of course had its origins in Blondie Hasler's original ideas: Trevor and I have merely brought them into the 21st century, although it is fair to say we were encouraged to do so by the under 30 footers being disenfranchised from what one might call 'normal' shorthanded ocean racing plus the vast amounts of money expected to be spent merely to go about one's 'lawful business'!
Ed Zajac is remembered with great affection not only as a fine, single-handed skipper but as someone who embraced the Jester ethos with both arms: he was very much a member of the Jester family and we all mourn his passing, particularly as we regarded him to be a very fine seaman indeed.
We are so glad that the Jester ideals are slowly being taken up elsewhere and we certainly look forward to more Polish participants in the future. Next year, as you probably know, we go to Baltimore in southern Ireland. This really is an initial warm-up for longer distances although, it has to be said, there is nothing easy about the tides and weather around Land's End and across the St George's Channel: a good eye-opener for the next Azores.
We do hope to see you in Plymouth somwetime, perhaps for the start of the Baltimore Challenge.
